Pilates teacher Shelley Smith has over ten years experience as a Body Control Pilates™ Teacher, teaching Pilates matwork from beginners to advanced level. Shelley is qualified to teach both Pilates matwork and Pilates machines. Shelley is also part of the ‘Teacher Training Education Team’ as a Regional Assessor - mentoring students through their teacher training.

 

What is Pilates?

Pilates a form of precision exercise that balances strength with flexibility, increasing stamina and co-ordination.  Focusing on natural movement patterns, it encourages the rebalancing of muscle groups, serving to bring the body into good postural alignment and allowing the body to function more efficiently.

 

Pilates exercise target the deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment.

Pilates helps to reshape your body, which will become longer, leaner and more toned. Pilates will also improve your posture, achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility, and it is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension.

Professional dancers have known for eighty years about the benefits of Joseph Pilates’ Method of exercise  in their quest for strength, flexibility, posture and endurance.  In the last ten years the popularity of Pilates has exploded amongst celebrities, sports professionals and is endorsed by the medical profession. There are now over a million of us in this country practising Pilates every week.
