Being able to run injury free and improve one’s individual times is a goal for many runners. Achieving this can seem a mile away. How often have you seen a runner wearing some type of support eager to get their mileage in?

Changing your running shoes is one of the simplest options for runners to try, and I bet some runners end up with a cupboard full of running shoes!

The way you run could be another issue; over- striding is known to be one cause of injury and a strain on your body when you run.

Running is a skill that needs to be taught. This statement can come as a surprise to some runners as it seems to be an element of a runners training which is commonly missed. Instead all the effort appears to be directed towards running the required mileage in a time set for a given training plan rather than how the miles are actually being run! Is this you?

Would you not benefit from a coach looking at HOW you run?

What we think we are doing often falls short of what we are achieving. A coach can often see subtle changes that could be made to improve your movement.

There are many aspects of training to take into consideration when possibly looking to change your running technique where assessing body movement can provide information on some of your abilities where reduced mobility or strength may compromise technique. There is a lot of information about changing technique but for some it may be better to keep the same running technique than to change, we look at individual technique rather than fitting you to a particular style of running. A change in running technique will take time to practice and adjust to before it will become a natural motion.

We will be hosting a workshop for runners in Stoke Hammond on Saturday 1st July 1pm - 3.30pm.

A succinct and specific session to enhance your running technique

Teachers: Trevor Killick (Sports Chiropractor / Movement Coach, Running Technique Coach), Nikki Killick (BCP Pilates Teacher), Louisa Harris (BCP Pilates Teacher)

The workshop aims to aid your understanding of the importance of balance, co-ordination and dynamic core training, incorporating simple methods to assess mobility and muscle weaknesses. It will also highlight the use of Pilates to improve your running style and ability.
